This year, our market was named one of America's Favorite Farmers Markets! We couldn't be more proud and honored to wrap up the 2023 season this way. In September, American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition announced the winners of the 15th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration , a national event honoring the role of farmers markets that ran between June 21 – September 18, 2023. Markets receiving the most public votes are declared the national winners. T


BAFM hosts first annual salsa contest
Twelve contestants entered the First Annual Burke Area Farmers Market Salsa Contest on Thursday, September 21st. Dedicated customers sampled a wide variety of delicious salsa combinations. Many went back for seconds before voting for their favorite in 4 categories: Best Fresh, Best Canned, Most Unusual, and (of course) Hottest. Watermelon seed spitting contest gets competitive!
The Burke Area Farmers Market hosted a rowdy watermelon seed spitting contest at their September 7th market. The 10U age group had 6 entries and the 10+ age group had 7. With a $1 donation to the Gregory Pool Fund, each contestant could enter multiple seeds. Heather Hammerbeck swept the older division with an impressive final measurement of 24’ 3”. Zucchini and tomato pie
It is the time of year that every gardener and Burke Area Farmers Market shopper has kitchen counters piled high with tomatoes and zucchini. Lucky for us, Jo Wulf of JoRassic Park Gardens shared an easy and delicious savory summer pie that can use some of this garden bounty. You may not know this about me, but breakfast/brunch foods are one of my love languages. Offer me a quiche, a stack of pancakes, bacon, or Eggs Benedict, and you will have my undivided attention. Brunch is my absolute favorite meal. Hands down. When zucchini is plentiful, I often work it into our brunch menus with the usual bread or muffins.
