Three Peaceful Trees: New vendor bringing handcrafted soaps to BAFM

Hello! My name is Amanda (Brozik) Hanson, owner of Three Peaceful Trees. I grew up on a farm south of Dallas, SD. I currently live in Springfield, SD, with my husband, Brady, and our two children, Jocelyn and Silas. This will be my first year selling at Burke Area Farmers Market, and I am excited to be around such a great group of people. I will be selling my handcrafted soaps and deodorants. I am also a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner and would love to share any information people would like about that too.

I started making soaps about 10 years ago while I was going to college at SDSU in Brookings. A group of women would get together regularly and make soap, and I was so graciously invited. I loved not only the final product but also the whole soap making process. I took a few years off of making soap after college but after our daughter was born, I decided I wanted a good, clean soap for her without all the added chemicals. I started making small batches again and soon found out that others wanted my soaps, too! I expanded my soap line to several different scents, including scent free, and have been selling soaps for over three years now. I recently added natural, organic deodorants.

My handcrafted soaps are made from simple ingredients: olive oil, coconut oil, and palm oil with a lye base. Each of these oils have wonderful qualities that contribute to the soap. Olive oil is a great moisturizer because it attracts external moisture, holds the moisture close to the skin, and forms a breathable film to prevent loss of internal moisture. Coconut oil is known for many health benefits. It has been found to help with skin conditions, such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, and other skin infections. It is a great moisturizer and helps delay wrinkles, along with giving the soap a wonderful lathering quality. Palm oil is almost essential in making a good bar of soap. Palm oil makes a hard, long-lasting bar of soap that helps balance the sudsiness of the coconut oil. It also cleans well and is mild. These soaps are great for sensitive skin and babies (just ask mine!).
